Take a Break

Most parents find family life pretty hectic โ€“ balancing home life ๐Ÿ with work-life ๐Ÿขand other commitments can fill days, weeks, and months with no respite. Weekends are often spent catching up on household chores,๐Ÿงน shopping, ๐Ÿ›๐Ÿ›’and other errands, leaving little time for rest and relaxation (R&R). Yet we know that downtime is essential. Regular R&R, even in small doses, builds up over time, creating a reservoir from which you can draw when you face challenging times (which are inevitable).
Relaxation doesnโ€™t necessarily mean lying flat on your back doing absolutely nothing๐Ÿ›Œ (although this might be appealing occasionally!) It means letting go of tensions and concerns, living in the moment for a period of time. Your commitments and problems wonโ€™t run away if you put them down for a while (moreโ€™s the pity), but you will feel stronger and better equipped to handle them more effectively once youโ€™ve had a break.

Ignore the dishes ๐Ÿฝor the washing pile ๐Ÿ‘š๐Ÿ‘•๐Ÿ‘–โ€“ go lie outside under a tree together and look for shapes in the clouds. Forget the lawns or the weeds in the flower ๐ŸŒทgarden, grab a Frisbee and head for the park.
Will anyone notice if you donโ€™t wash the car๐Ÿš— for one weekend?
Grab some fishing gear ๐ŸŽฃand head for the nearest wharf.
Crumbs on the floor disappear all by themselves if you turn the music up and dance over the top of them!

Switch off that voice in your head that reminds you of all the things you havenโ€™t accomplished and celebrate everything that is great in your life.
Give yourself a pat on the back for all the things you **have** achieved. Congratulate family members and friends for the successes โ€“ big and small. If itโ€™s been a rough ride lately, celebrate coping with one day at a time. Be patient with yourself and others. Remember that life is a
journey and we never actually reach the destination of perfection, of having everything done, finished, just right. Celebrate the steps you have made on your journey before you evaluate and make future plans.โค๏ธ
